The College School
The College School is a Preschool–Eighth Grade independent school in Webster Groves, Missouri, where rigorous academics come to life through hands-on, experiential learning. From age three through eighth grade, students learn by doing—questioning, creating, exploring, collaborating, and solving meaningful problems in classrooms, studios, gardens, the community, and the natural world.
Our Preschool–8th Grade model gives children the space to grow into confident, capable learners while remaining deeply engaged in the work of childhood. Early Childhood is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, while students across all grade levels experience interdisciplinary, project-based learning supported by specialists in visual art, drama, music, Spanish, physical education, and greenhouse and garden education.
What truly sets The College School apart is how far learning extends beyond the traditional classroom. Our 28-acre LaBarque Campus in Pacific, Missouri—just 30 minutes from our Webster Groves campus—serves as an outdoor learning laboratory where students conduct field studies, explore creeks and forests, navigate with maps and compasses, camp, collaborate, take appropriate risks, and apply their learning in authentic settings.
The result is an education that develops more than academic knowledge. TCS students learn to think critically, communicate effectively, work with others, navigate uncertainty, and approach new challenges with curiosity, confidence, and independence. In an increasingly digital world, The College School remains intentionally rooted in meaningful relationships, real experiences, and learning that prepares children not simply for their next school, but for whatever comes next.
