New City School

For over 50 years, New City School students have received an education that is challenging and joyful in equal measure. Children age 3 through 6th Grade participate in a hands-on, experiential curriculum guided by the theory of Multiple Intelligences, allowing them to develop their individual strengths and grow into confident, joyful learners who are successful academically, knowledgeable about themselves and others, and who value diversity. Alumni attend some of the most reputable secondary schools, and are prepared to lead in classrooms and beyond. New City School offers a Variable Tuition program to support families at different income levels, leading to a socio-economically diverse community.

Housed in a turn-of-the-century school building in the Central West End neighborhood of St. Louis City, New City School is a dynamic learning community and an exciting place for children and families to learn and grow. We pride ourselves on the diverse and caring community that we have built at New City School, which incorporates our students, our families, our faculty and staff, and our friends and neighbors. Partnerships with local organizations, such as the Central West End Farm, allow students to learn firsthand about how they can make a difference in the world and lead for change.

New City School’s newest classroom, The Tom Hoerr Innovation Lab, reinforces the school’s commitment to technology and science programming, as well as provides opportunities for children to construct, build, tinker, and dream. This all-ages classroom is a natural extension of the school’s commitment to Multiple Intelligences education, and allows students to experience success and failure, develop grit and resiliency, and come up with creative solutions to design challenges. Curriculum for the Innovation Lab not only emphasizes STEAM concepts, but also encourages skills that are at the heart of the New City School experience and education: empathy, compassion, and teamwork.
