Overview

New City School, a leading, progressive independent school for approximately 340 students ages three through grade six, seeks an inspiring and dedicated 3s teacher. The position requires maintaining a full teaching load, actively engaging in outdoor learning, and attending professional meetings. A bachelor's degree in Elementary or Early Education and/or a master’s degree and teaching certificate or credential is preferred. A minimum of 3 years of lead classroom teaching experience is required.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of early childhood development, progressive pedagogy, and educational research; an understanding of and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; a growth-oriented mindset; and a spirit of collaboration and joyful learning. In addition, an understanding of the Responsive Classroom approach is desired.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Display a passion for teaching and nurturing the whole child
  • Connect and interact with a diverse population of students, families and faculty and exhibit a deep appreciation and understanding of diversity in all its forms
  • Teach children based on a solid understanding of early childhood development, 
  • Exhibit a comfort and ease with collaborative co-teaching, actively working to foster a collaborative environment where all thrive, including the class’s assistant teacher 
  • Use formative and summative assessment to inform instruction and iterate lessons
  • Create a learning environment that facilitates collaboration, compassion for others and independence
  • Instruct utilizing an inquiry-based approach, multiple intelligences, specifically teaching whole group and small group, in outdoor and indoor settings  
  • Communicates comfortably with parents and caregivers through daily in-person conversations, email, written progress reports, and conferences 
  • Display strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with all constituents 
  • Engage in ongoing curriculum development and curriculum design
  • Articulate the principles of inclusion, equity and justice, both in the classroom and beyond
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Show a strong commitment to professional learning and growth 
  • Exhibit strong professional skills including discretion, judgment and integrity 
  • Invest in the life of the school by participating in collaborative planning sessions with grade level teammates, weekly staff meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings 
  • Be technologically savvy, including the use of using google apps

Start Date: August, 2025 with possible professional development earlier in the summer
