JOB SUMMARY
MICDS is seeking a dynamic and talented Theater Arts teacher to join our Upper School 9th - 12th grade Arts Department starting in the 2025-2026 academic year. This teacher will develop and deliver courses that promote students’ interest, abilities, and appreciation for artistic expression, knowledge and creativity in theatre arts courses as well as directing MICDS Theater productions. The ideal candidate will have teaching experience and an educational background in the theater arts. The ideal candidate will be a strong collaborator who will bring a student-centered approach to the classroom as well as a commitment to meeting the needs of a diverse group of learners. Our school community encourages ongoing professional growth and seeks faculty with a strong interest in implementing new curriculum and pedagogies aligned with highly effective teaching practices. This teaching position includes serving as an advisor to 10-12 students and along with other community responsibilities such as club sponsorship.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Works with the department chair to plan, document, evaluate, and revise curriculum, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction.

Prepare course materials including syllabus, assignments, and Canvas page that fit into the framework of a one-to-one laptop environment.

Teach four classes in the Arts Department, direct two productions (including the winter musical) and support two additional theater productions

Partner and collaborate with the Arts Department in creating and delivering a robust curriculum that supports and enhances our Arts program

Collaborates closely with the theater staff and maintains a high level of safety and a collegial working environment for students and staff.

Evaluate, document, and communicate student progress consistently through ongoing assessments and regular conferences

Attends faculty, grade level and departmental meetings and supervisory duties.

Implements effective and inclusive classroom management strategies to ensure a productive learning environment.

Serve as an advisor for 10-12 upper school students and implement grade-level programming and advisory curriculum.

Participates in the MICDS professional development framework and pursues outside opportunities to stay current with best practices and maintain expertise in subject matter.

Communicates student progress consistently with parents and guardians.

Collaborate effectively with the departmental team, student support service personnel, and colleagues.

Serve on divisional and school-wide curriculum and program committees.

Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the School’s discretion.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor degree in subject matter required and Masters preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience in the performing arts.

Ability to work in an environment that embraces a diverse community of students, educators, parents, and alums.

Experience working in a one-to-one laptop environment or relevant technology skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Must enjoy working and learning with children.
Other Information

A criminal history and background check is required and must be successfully completed prior to employment.

May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.

Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom, theater and theater shop environment.

Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
