Summary of Position:
City Academy’s unique approach to educating students includes utilizing the power of subject-area specialist teachers. This position is for a Third and Fourth Grade Mathematics teacher. The City Academy’s mathematics program uses a rigorous curriculum grounded in the Singapore Math approach, emphasizing deep conceptual understanding, number sense, mathematical reasoning, and problem solving. Teachers differentiate instruction to build independence, stamina, and confidence while maintaining bold expectations for all learners.
This position also includes serving as an advisor to approximately 15 students. Advisory responsibilities include leading activities designed to strengthen executive functioning skills, support students’ social-emotional well-being, and promote the development of a growth mindset. In this role, the teacher works collaboratively with families and colleagues to develop thoughtful, creative solutions that support the whole child.

Responsibilities
Classroom Instruction:

  • Deliver engaging daily mathematics instruction aligned with accepted standards and established outcomes using the Singapore Math methodology.
  • Foster deep conceptual understanding through the concrete-pictorial-abstract progression and intentional use of mathematical discourse.
  • Build student confidence and perseverance in problem solving while maintaining bold academic expectations.

Instructional Support:

  • Collaborate with faculty and families to provide support, resources, and strategies that enhance students’ mathematical growth.
  • Differentiate instruction using a variety of strategies to address diverse learning needs while maintaining high standards.

Assessment and Data Analysis:

  • Develop and implement effective formative and summative assessments to measure student progress in mathematical understanding and skill development.
  • Analyze student data to inform instruction and provide timely, constructive feedback that supports academic growth.

Curriculum Development:

  • Design and implement comprehensive and engaging mathematics lessons that align vertically with curriculum across grade levels.
  • Provide students with multiple opportunities to demonstrate conceptual understanding and apply mathematical thinking in authentic contexts.

Professional Development:

  • Remain current on best practices in mathematics instruction and the Singapore Math framework through ongoing professional learning and collaboration.
  • Fostering Community:
  • Create a classroom environment where students feel safe, respected, and ready to take appropriate academic risks.
  • Maintain regular communication with families and colleagues regarding students’ progress and support needs.
  • Demonstrate understanding, respect, and cultural responsiveness in alignment with the City Academy mission.

Qualifications

Degree:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, Mathematics Education, or a related field.
  • Curricular Excellence:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mathematics pedagogy, curriculum development, and instructional best practices.
  • Experience implementing or willingness to learn the Singapore Math approach, including strategies that develop conceptual understanding and mathematical reasoning.
  • Expertise in designing, administering, and interpreting assessments aligned with program standards and outcomes.

Diverse Experiences:

  • At least three years of experience working with elementary students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proven ability to support a range of learners through differentiated instruction and culturally responsive teaching practices.
