About Miriam High School

Since expanding our program in 2016, Miriam High School has been dedicated to serving high school students with complex learning challenges. In the coming school year, we are adding 7th and 8th grade classes to our High School campus. As a private, independent high school located in Olivette, we prepare students for college, vocational training, or the workforce through small group instruction, specialized curricula, and a highly caring faculty. 

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Miriam is seeking a dynamic, student-centered Teacher Assistant to join our collaborative team. This role assists classroom teachers in providing  high-impact instruction to middle and high school students through push-in and pull-out services where needed. In the past, our teacher assistants have also provided targeted small-group and/or individual academic support. The ideal candidate will administer the instructional program in compliance with school, state, and federal guidelines, providing necessary accommodations and differentiation in reading and writing to serve diverse learning profiles. 

Key Responsibilities

Instructional Support & Lesson Delivery

  • Individualized Learning: Partner with lead teachers to implement academic programs tailored to help each student reach their full potential.

  • Lesson Implementation: Assist in delivering prepared lessons and support Experiential Learning programs through active planning and execution.

  • Substitute Coverage: Serve as a substitute in the lead teacher's absence, ensuring continuity by following established lesson plans.

  • Academic Continuity: Maintain a deep understanding of classroom schedules, academic progressions, and available instructional materials.

Classroom Management & Student Safety

  • Behavioral Support: Observe, record, and consistently follow established behavior management plans to maintain a productive learning environment.

  • Student Supervision: Manage student movement and safety throughout the building and grounds, including providing supervision for the extended day program as required.

  • Ethical Standards: Maintain the highest level of ethical behavior and absolute confidentiality regarding student records and information.

Administrative & Operational Support

  • Material Preparation: Assist with the preparation, organization, and maintenance of classroom equipment and instructional materials.

  • Clerical Duties: Complete teacher-assigned clerical tasks efficiently to support classroom operations.

  • Policy Compliance: Adhere strictly to all organizational policies and procedures as outlined in the Personnel Policies Handbook.

Professional Development

  • Continuous Growth: Actively participate in approved workshops, in-service training, and professional conferences to enhance skills and instructional knowledge.

  • Adaptability: Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall mission of the school and the needs of the student body.

Working Conditions

 

  • Typical Schedule: Monday-Friday 8 AM- 4 PM with about twice a month after school meetings that run until 5 pm plus at least two weekend Admission Open House events

  • Physical Activity: The role is highly active, requiring talking, hearing, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and crawling throughout the day.

  • Lifting: Must frequently lift and/or move items weighing over 50 pounds.

  • Vision: Requires close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, as well as depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field

  • Experience working with students with learning challenges preferred
