Summer Camp Music Activity Specialist New City School
Come and spend the summer with us! Campers range in age from 3 years
old through rising 7th Graders.
The Music Activity Specialist is responsible for planning, preparing, and leading engaging music-related activities for campers. This includes teaching camp-style songs, organizing performances, and bringing energy and fun to assemblies. Specialists will oversee their designated activity area, including managing equipment, materials, and curriculum. Each group of campers will attend the activity for approximately 45 minutes, accompanied by a counselor to assist with supervision and participation. Specialists are expected to create an inclusive and enjoyable environment for all campers while maintaining professionalism and safety.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Documented training and experience in music, performance, or a related activity
• Passion for working with children and adults in a dynamic camp environment
• Ability to teach and lead camp-style songs, performances, and assemblies
• Experience in supervising staff and campers in group settings
• Strong communication skills and the ability to accept guidance and feedback
• Good character, integrity, adaptability, and enthusiasm
• Patience, self-control, and a sense of humor
• College-aged individuals or college graduates preferred
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead music-based activities, including teaching songs, organizing performances, and leading assemblies with enthusiasm and creativity
• Be fully present and prepared each day camp is in session, ensuring all activities run smoothly
• Actively engage counselors in activities alongside campers, providing clear instructions to ensure participation
• Develop creative, educational, and adaptable activities, including plans for rainy days
• Maintain a fun and inclusive environment that encourages camper participation and enjoyment
• Conduct pre-season and post-season inventory of equipment and supplies, submitting any necessary requests to camp administration in a timely manner
• Attend pre-season staff training and periodic staff meetings during the summer
• Ensure proper care, maintenance, and organization of all music-related equipment and supplies
• Assist with general camp responsibilities, such as lunch and car-line duties, as needed
• Communicate promptly with camp administration about any issues related to safety, scheduling, or materials
• Maintain discretion in conversations with campers and staff, fostering a professional and respectful environment
• Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by the Directors of New City Summer Camp
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Ability to lead engaging, age-appropriate music activities and inspire participation
• Effective communication and collaboration with other staff and counselors
• Ability to assess camper behavior, ensure safety, and apply appropriate behavior management strategies
• Flexibility to adapt activities to meet the needs of campers with varying ages and skill levels
•Physical stamina to maintain active engagement with campers throughout the day
• Visual and auditory ability to monitor camper safety and respond to environmental or activity-related hazards
