Summary of Position:
City Academy’s unique approach to educating students includes utilizing the power of subject area specialist teachers. This position is for a full-time Spanish teacher. The Spanish teacher will be responsible for working with students, ages three/four year olds through sixth grade. In addition, this educator would develop a vertically-aligned, culturally responsive curriculum that connects to material taught in other subjects throughout the school. In this role, the teacher will work collaboratively with families while also developing creative solutions to problems in order to meet the needs of the whole child.

Responsibilities

Classroom Instruction:

  • Create and implement dynamic lessons that incorporate a variety of teaching techniques, materials, and cultural perspectives to engage students in the language development process.
  • Foster critical thinking and linguistic appreciation through dynamic teaching approaches rooted in oral proficiency.

Instructional Support: 

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and families to provide support, resources, and strategies to enhance Spanish instruction. 
  • Accommodate student learning differences with a variety of instructional strategies to maintain high standards. 

Assessment and Data Analysis: 

  • Evaluate student work, provide constructive feedback, and assess student progress through a variety of assessment methods, including observation, paper assessments, and projects.

Curriculum Development: 

  • Design and implement engaging and age-appropriate Spanish curriculum aligned with content taught in other subject areas, ensuring students develop fundamental language skills and vocabulary.
  • Provide students with various opportunities to demonstrate their skillsets, such as projects and presentations.

Professional Development:

  • Keep current on the latest trends, methodologies, and resources in foreign language education by attending professional development seminars. 

Fostering Community:

  • Develop a community and environment where students feel safe, respected, and ready to meet new challenges and take appropriate risks. 
  • Maintain regular contact with families and faculty members that clearly and effectively describes children’s skills and areas for support. 
  • Consistently show understanding, respect, and sensitivity for cultural differences to live out the City Academy mission.

Qualifications

Degree: 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, Middle School Education, Spanish, or related field.

Curricular Excellence: 

  • Demonstrate a creative and innovative approach to teaching Spanish utilizing a variety of methods.
  • Exhibit a strong proficiency in Spanish and a proven ability to teach it effectively to students.

Diverse Experiences: 

  • At least three years of experience working with students of diverse backgrounds in elementary and/or middle schools.
  • Proven knowledge, skills, and experience in elementary/middle school education with a focus on Spanish instruction. 

Passion: 

  • Exhibit a genuine passion for Spanish language and Hispanic culture with a commitment to instilling a love for the subject in students.
  • Exude a warm, caring, flexible, knowledgeable, and dynamic personality.

Collaborative Mentality: 

  • Ability to build positive working relationships with students, families, and colleagues to create a supportive learning community. 
  • Possess excellent communication skills to convey complex concepts in an accessible manner to students, teachers, and parents.
