Nap and Extended Care Classroom Assistant Chesterfield Montessori School
Chesterfield Montessori School (CMS) is searching for an enthusiastic, compassionate, creative educational professional to join our growing team of Montessorians for the coming school year, with training beginning in early to mid-August.

Pay and Benefits:
Pay is $16.50 to $17 per hour.

Hours are 11:00 AM to 5:30 PM

Responsibilities:
Our school serves children from 14 months through 8th grade. This position assists the younger Primary children (2.5 to 4 years) in the classroom, during nap and recess, and children from 2.5 to 6 in Extended Care.
Classroom assistants support the Associated Montessori International (AMI) trained guides in a variety of ways, depending on which environment they are serving. A few examples include:
- acting as role models for Grace and Courtesy
- maintaining beauty and order in the classroom
- creating a peaceful environment conducive to rest (during nap)
- working with the children to prepare snack, clean the classroom
- actively engaging the children during free play/recess/extended care time (singing songs, playing games, creating art, caring for the classroom)
- keeping the children safe and helping them productively navigate social dynamics
- helping in the bathroom
- treating each child with respect and dignity
- working collaboratively with the classroom guide (AMI trained teacher), administrators and the whole team to create a peaceful, joyful environment conducive to learning
- bringing humor and calm to interactions with the children
- being sensitive to the needs of the children and able to adapt as needed
- setting appropriate boundaries in a kind and firm manner
Qualifications
This job requires experience working with children, emotional awareness, patience, compassion, and outstanding interpersonal, observational, and communication skills. Our team members have a growth mindset and a collaborative approach to working with colleagues and parents. Exposure to Montessori educational philosophy is preferred.
