Middle School (grades 6-8) Full-time Teaching Position

The College School is an independent school of approximately 225 students, Preschool through Eighth Grade, in St. Louis, Missouri with a focus on interdisciplinary, experiential, and outdoor education. We seek a highly-skilled and creative individual who knows the importance of cultivating relationships with students in order to empower their success, and who understands the value of our approach.

JOB SUMMARY: A faculty member at The College School is primarily responsible for instructing students in a way aligned with the school’s mission. Faculty members report directly to the Principal and work collaboratively with their colleagues to design, update, and implement the school’s curriculum. Teachers also participate in and regularly lead off-site trips for students, supervising them and managing logistics. Teachers assess students regularly and are in frequent contact with families to inform them of their students’ progress.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Joyfully and wisely guide children through personal and intellectual discovery;
  • Collaborate with a team on the design and implementation of an engaging, age-appropriate, thematically-integrated, experiential curriculum;
  • Focus on math and science instruction;
  • Teach interdisciplinary project-based classes;
  • Plan, implement, and supervise overnight trips that support and enhance thematic learning;
  • Actively participate in and contribute to the school’s professional community and curricular goals 

Common Qualification Requirements:

  • The ability to study, adapt, implement, and frequently create a mission-aligned curriculum for the classes taught;
  • Experience and acumen in classroom management;
  • A sensitivity to the various needs of each individual student, both academic and social-emotional; 
  • Attention to communication with families, students, colleagues and supervisors, including responding to written and oral requests and messages;
  • Physical stamina to manage trips, both outdoor and indoor, including walking (or assisted movement as needed) long distances, navigating open, often uneven spaces, and sleeping outdoors;
  • An openness to obtain a CDL license to drive our school buses on trips (encouraged but not required).
