Long term substitute AP history teacher Thomas Jefferson School
Thomas Jefferson School seeks a long-term substitute history teacher for the second semester of the 2024–2025 academic year. This adjunct faculty member will be responsible for teaching two AP history classes, for which course work has been organized for the remainder of the semester.
Teaching Responsibilities
- Teaching one section (8 students) of AP U.S. History (11th grade)
- Teaching one section (14 students) of AP World History: Modern (10th grade)
General Hours
- January 6 and 7, 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. for orientation and faculty/staff meetings
- Approximately 12:00 p.m.–3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, January 8 through May 9, with the option to extend through May 23
- Time needed to complete personalized end-of-quarter comments for each student

General Teaching Responsibilities
- Participating in orientation to become familiar with the School’s mission, academic policies and procedures, expectations, and MyTJS, our online learning-management system
- Following course syllabus, lesson plans, and assignments to meet essential learning objectives
- Communicating course objectives, expectations, and assignments to students in a timely manner via the school’s online learning management system
- Promoting active learning through class assignments, discussions, projects, etc.
- Assessing student work in a timely fashion and according to communicated expectations
- Maintaining an electronic gradebook in the school’s online learning management system
- Communicating promptly with advisors if a student is not actively engaging in the course or meeting objectives
- Drafting personalized end-of-quarter comments for each student that reflect on their progress and highlight opportunities for continued growth
- Attendance at faculty and staff meetings, as needed (communicated in advance by academic or school leadership)
The ideal candidate possesses strong skills or experience in the following areas:
- Relevant educational background and teaching experience
- Demonstrated interest in areas of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
- Familiarity with applicable instructional practices, resources, and technologies
- Commitment to continuous professional growth
- Collegial spirit, positive outlook, a sense of humor, and willingness to fill in as needed to further the student experience
- Genuine appreciation of high-school students
