Learning Specialist for Gifted Students Central Christian School

Central Christian School is seeking a Christ-filled, innovative, and passionate individual to serve our school as our Horizons Teacher, a Learning Specialist for gifted students. This individual will be responsible for supporting the academic success of students who benefit from enrichment. This role provides direct instruction, coaching, and program support through a hybrid service model that includes monthly grade-level pull-out days, ongoing student conferencing, push-in support, and close collaboration with teachers and the school counselor. This Specialist helps develop deep thinking, creativity, executive functioning, social-emotional growth, and self-directed learning. 

Qualifications & Interests:

  • A profession of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
  • Personally affirm Central’s Statement of Faith
  • A member of a Bible-teaching Christian church
  • Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education
  • Certification in Gifted Education or related specialization, preferred
  • Two or more years of successful classroom teaching experience, preferred
  • Experience in project-based, inquiry-based, or studio-style learning
  • Student goal-setting, conferencing, and learning plans (e.g., ALPs, ILPs)
  • Differentiating instruction and extending grade-level curriculum
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills

Job Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate pull-out and push-in sessions for 3rd-6th Grade students enrolled in Horizons.
  • Develop, implement, and update Advanced Learning Plans for each student in the Horizons program.
  • Collaborate with homeroom teachers to provide extension opportunities within the general education classroom. 
  • Foster strong relationships and communicate regularly with parents of Horizons students and prospective Horizons parents.
  • Implement the following assessments annually to identify gifted learners: the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test, the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking, and the Scales for Identifying Gifted Students.
  • Review and further develop the Horizons program design, objectives, curriculum, and practices.
  • Facilitate monthly grade-level pull-out days for students in Grades 3–6, including: Community & SEL instruction, Group Project Studio learning, Workshop/rotation blocks with student conferences and coached work time
  • Provide push-in and pull-out support between pull-out weeks to extend learning and support student growth in the classroom context.
