Overview

New City School, a leading, progressive independent school for approximately 330 students ages three through grade six, seeks an inspiring and dedicated Kindergarten teacher to begin in August, 2025.. The position requires maintaining a full teaching load, weekly recess and lunch duties and attending professional meetings. A bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or a related field is required; a master’s degree and teaching certificate or credential is preferred. A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience is also required.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of child development, progressive pedagogy, and educational research; an understanding of and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; a growth-oriented mindset; and a spirit of collaboration and joyful learning. In addition, an understanding of the Responsive Classroom approach is desired.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·      Effectively teach children based on a solid understanding of early childhood development, while teaming with the other Kindergarten teachers

·      Design curriculum to develop student understanding

·      Use formative and summative assessment to inform instruction and iterate lessons

·      Create a learning environment that facilitates collaboration, compassion for others and independence

·      Effectively instruct students individually and in small/whole group settings, utilizing various teaching methods including the multiple intelligences approach

·      Effectively interact with a diverse population of students, families and faculty and exhibit a deep appreciation and understanding of diversity in all its forms

·      Effectively articulate the principles of inclusion, equity and justice, both in the classroom and beyond

·      Display strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with all constituents 

·      Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills 

·      Display a passion for teaching and nurturing the whole child

·      Show a strong commitment to professional learning and growth 

·      Exhibit strong professional skills including discretion, judgment and integrity 

·      Invest in the life of the school by participating in collaborative planning sessions, weekly staff meetings and multidisciplinary team meetings 

·      Be technologically savvy

Start Date: August 2025 with possible professional development opportunities in the summer.
