Fourth Grade Teacher Rossman School

Rossman School is searching for an experienced educator to assume homeroom responsibilities for its fourth grade for the 2026–2027 academic year. A small-by-design school with one class per grade level, Rossman’s strong academic program challenges and stretches each student through team-teaching with two experienced educators at all grade levels. Working collaboratively, the fourth grade homeroom teaching team jointly plans and teaches the language arts and mathematics curriculum.

This homeroom teacher must have strong expertise in teaching language arts. Rossman’s language arts curriculum focuses on the development of strong reading skills in multiple genres through the use of high-interest novels and reading comprehension materials to cultivate a love for reading in young adults while teaching essential reading skills. The writing process is a critical focus of the language arts curriculum as well. Rossman School utilizes the 6+1 Traits of Writing program and Writer’s Workshop to assist in the instruction of young writers. Guiding students through all stages of the writing process, conferencing individually with students, fostering critical thinking skills for effective communication, and championing the ideas and voices of students are all central to the instruction of writing at Rossman. A strong language arts teacher recognizes the importance of teaching and adapting to individual student needs and will have experience in utilizing tools and resources to support small group, differentiated learning in both writing and reading. Spelling, grammar, and vocabulary development are important facets of the language arts curriculum as well. The mathematics curriculum is based on the Everyday Mathematics Program. Team-teaching might look like supporting students or your colleague as they take the lead in math instruction. Fostering character development and class community is also an integral aspect of team-teaching as a homeroom team.

The ideal candidate for this position will have at least three years experience teaching elementary children and have demonstrated a dedication to honesty, kindness, respect, and responsibility—the pillars of Rossman’s character program—in his/her interactions with children and adults. He/she will possess a strong work ethic, a love for teaching, a commitment to each child’s academic and social-emotional growth, the ability to effectively partner with parents, a desire to collaborate with colleagues––both his/her teaching partner and specialty subject teachers—and a commitment to ongoing professional growth.

Experience in an independent school is not required. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with other area independent schools and an applicant's experience.
