Director of Business & Operations Crossroads College Preparatory School
Crossroads College Prep seeks a seasoned, thoughtful, and dedicated professional to serve as the school’s next Director of Business and Operations. Reporting to Co-Heads of School, this individual is responsible for all aspects of the school’s finances and oversees the office operations and facilities.
A strong candidate will possess knowledge in business and not-for-profit accounting policies, procedures, practices, facilities, and software programs; experience with Quickbooks, FACTS, and Blackbaud is a plus; the ability to remain calm and flexible under pressure and work effectively while supervising, managing, and delegating multiple functions and responsibilities; aptitude for kindness and compassion when interacting with all members of the school community; and a track record of integrity.
Job Description:
Act as a strategic thought partner with the Co-Heads of School, focusing on short-term and long-term strategic thinking and planning. Serve on the Leadership Team and lead the Finance Committee of the Board. Manage multiple functions of the school operations, including Finance, Facilities, and Human Resources.
A successful candidate is a skilled communicator, able to analyze complex financial topics and effectively communicate this information to varied audiences; is a presence in the school community; has experience in the development of analysis for strategic decision-making involving enrollment, tuition, salaries and benefits, and capital projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Finance
- Provide strategic leadership, analysis, and management of finances and operations.
- Manage the day-to-day financial functions of the school, including timely and accurate accounting, and managing Business Office personnel.
- Ensure adequate retention of all accounting records, employee files, contracts and agreements, and insurance records.
- Prepare and monitor the Annual Operating Budget, along with cash projections and financial forecasts as requested throughout the year.
- Provide accurate and timely financial reports to all administration, faculty and staff with budget management responsibility; approve payment of all financial obligations; sign checks and approve all wire transfers.
- Oversee the annual independent audit of financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with all local and state reporting requirements; administer risk management programs to minimize or mitigate losses and ensure maximum insurance benefit in the event of incident or claim.
- Oversight of all business and financial activities and ensure the proper reflection of such transactions in the financial records.
- Partner with Admissions on creation of contracts and tracking the re-enrollment process each year
- Manage the Individualized Tuition process, working with Admissions to ensure equitable allocation of resources based on financial analysis and review of applications.
Facilities
- Supervisory responsibilities of the Facilities Manager.
- Work with the Facilities Manager to plan and budget for short-term and long-term facility needs.
- Coordinate closely with the Facilities Manager on oversight of the physical plant, grounds, and construction projects.
Business Operations
- Direct the salary administration and employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement, worker’s compensation, life insurance, and other related plans.
- Collaborate effectively with Advancement, Enrollment Management, and other departments.
- Manage front office personnel, including schedules and responsibilities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Accounting degree or CPA preferred
- Senior-level experience creating and executing financial planning and management strategies
- Experience in an independent school or other non-profit preferred
- Experience working collaboratively on administrative teams and working with non-profit boards
- Experience managing a team setting goals, responsibilities, expectations, and clear methods of accountability
