Founded in 1923, John Burroughs School (jburroughs.org) is an independent, coeducational, college preparatory day school for grades 7-12 located on a 49-acre campus in suburban St. Louis, Missouri. Opportunity Description:
The Bookstore Manager is responsible for operational efficiency and financial health of the JBS campus bookstore. This role blends retail management with academic support, ensuring that students and faculty have seamless access to required materials while maintaining a profitable and welcoming retail environment.
Key Responsibilities

Operational Excellence: Supervise daily retail operations, including inventory procurement, point-of-sale (POS) management, and merchandising. Order, track, and manage inventory for textbooks, school supplies, snacks, apparel, and theatre tickets. Implement buyback programs and manage vendor relationships.

Online MBS Bookstore: Develop and maintain the bookstore’s online presence and e-commerce platform to ensure a user-friendly digital shopping experience.

Financial Oversight: Manage the annual bookstore budget, oversee daily financial reporting, and track invoices to ensure vendor compliance and timely receipt of goods.

Administrative Duties: Partner with the Business Office on daily operations and provide occasional administrative support to the Front Office and Academic departments, as needed.
Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Retail Sales, or related experience.

Experience: 2-5 years experience in retail sales, business, education, or related experience

Skills: Proficiency with POS systems and strong Excel skills for reporting; knowledge of inventory management. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple moving parts during peak seasons. Excellent interpersonal skills for engaging with parents, faculty and students.

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift, push, and pull merchandise (often 30-40 lbs) and stand for extended periods.
