Adjunct Academic Tutors (Grades 6-12) The Whitfield School
The Whitfield School is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Adjunct Tutors to work with students in grades 6-12. We are looking for individuals with a strong background in Math, Reading, and/or Writing to provide focused, skill-based academic support.
The primary goal of a Whitfield tutor is to support student growth, both academically and personally. We seek tutors who embody a growth mindset, aligned with our Habits of Mind and Heart, toward both student learning and teaching practice.
Sessions will focus on skill acquisition and problem-solving. While homework may be used as a vehicle for developing skills, homework completion should not be the goal of tutoring sessions.
Tutor Responsibilities
As a Whitfield Tutor, you will play a key role in developing students' core academic skills:

Collaborate and Plan: Work closely with the Director of Teaching & Learning and Whitfield faculty to understand curriculum goals and individual student learning profiles.

Goal Setting: Support the development and ongoing monitoring of individual student learning goals.

Progress Communication: Provide consistent progress monitoring and communication to the parents and the Director of Teaching & Learning.
Availability Needs
Candidates with availability during the following times are strongly encouraged to apply:

Before School: 7:30 AM - 8:15 AM, Monday- Friday

Mid-Day: 9:25 AM - 3:25 PM (within a 5-day rotating cycle.)

After School: 3:25 PM - 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday
Qualifications

Experience: Previous experience tutoring or teaching middle school and/or high school students (Grades 6-12) is strongly preferred.

Expertise: Deep subject matter knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Mathematics, Reading Comprehension/Literacy, and/or Academic Writing. Special Education/Intervention experience is a plus.

Mindset: A demonstrable growth mindset and a commitment to a student-centered, skill-acquisition approach.

Commitment: Must be available for scheduled, session-based tutoring hours.
