4/5s Classroom Assistant Teacher Position

New City School, a leading, progressive independent school for students ages three through grade six and located in the Central West End of St. Louis, is seeking candidates for a 4/5s Assistant Teacher Position. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of child development, progressive pedagogy, and educational research; an understanding of and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; a growth-oriented mindset; and a spirit of collaboration and joyful learning. In addition, an understanding of the Responsive Classroom approach is desired.

Strong and successful applicants will:

  • Have a bachelor’s degree and experience working with pre-primary aged (4 to 5 year-old) children. 
  • Have a thorough understanding of child development and progressive pedagogy.
  • Support the curriculum plans of the head teacher.
  • Assist with instructing students individually and in small groups. 
  • Be responsible for helping to organize and maintain a materials-based classroom that reflects the curriculum and current work of the children. 
  • Demonstrate flexibility and have strong inter- and intrapersonal skills.
  • Have an understanding of and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Enjoy working in a diverse and progressive environment.
  • Display strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with all constituents.

Salary range: $32,000-$34,000
