Overview

New City School, a leading, progressive independent school for approximately 330 students ages three through grade six, seeks an inspiring and dedicated assistant teacher to begin in August, 2025. 

Strong and successful candidates will:

  • Have a bachelor’s degree and experience working with pre-primary aged (3 to 5 year-old) children.
  • Have an understanding of child development and progressive pedagogy.
  • Support the curriculum plans of the head teacher.
  • Assist with instructing student individually and in small groups.
  • Be responsible for helping to organize and maintain a materials-based classroom that reflects the curriculum and current work of the children.
  • Effectively interact with a diverse population of students, families and faculty and exhibit a deep appreciation and understanding of diversity in all its forms.
  • Display strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with all constituents. 
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Display a passion for teaching and nurturing the whole child.
  • Exhibit strong professional skills including discretion, judgment and integrity. 

Start Date: August 2025 

Compensation: New City offers competitive compensation (commensurate with experience) and excellent benefits including professional development funds, generous medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, bereavement leave, paid parental leave, retirement benefits and tuition remission for children of faculty members.
