Camp Deerhorn

“This summer, your boy will grow.” Words written by our grandfather when Deerhorn was founded in 1930 still ring true 95 years later. A lot has changed in those 95 years, and summers are busier than ever. We listened to what parents wanted and offer shorter sessions that many other camps don’t. We start and end our summer with two 4-day Father Son camps, and have 5 camper-only sessions in between, each 10 or 11 days long. Many kids stay multiple sessions. We offer an amazing line up of activities, including canoeing, sailing, swimming, water-skiing, horseback riding, mountain biking, crafts, basketball, tennis, archery, riflery, golf, and sports & games. The focus at Camp Deerhorn is not on being the best in those activities, but on self-improvement, and building skills in lifetime sports.

Even though a lot has changed in the past 95 years, the things that make Camp Deerhorn so special have not. A summer at Deerhorn is so much more than activities, team competitions, playing with camp dogs, and campfires. It’s a summer of growth, adventure, independence, and new friendships. It’s a culture of kindness built on the words of the Deerhorn Creed, where he feels like he can be his true self. Lines of the Creed include "To be kind, because manliness requires kindness," and "To play every game on the level, win modestly, lose gracefully, and have a kind word for the opposing side." It’s the beginning of an incredible journey, where he finds courage to try, fail, and try again, trust in his own strength and abilities, and friends who become family.
