Theology Teacher St. Louis University High

The Theology Teacher at St. Louis University High School will serve the unique Catholic and Jesuit educational and formational mission of the school by designing and implementing educational curriculum in the Theology Department, covering additional required supervisory, formational and co-curricular responsibilities and fulfilling school expectations for ongoing professional and spiritual development. This position will teach four sections.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Plans and develops an engaging, age-appropriate course of study in the Theology classroom, adhering to the school mission and philosophy, educational best practices as well as Jesuit and St. Louis U. High curriculum guidelines.
  • Seeks to fulfill the stated goals of the Theology Department, which include instructing students in explaining and defending the Catholic faith, living as a Man for Others, and cultivating a loving relationship with God.
  • Designs and delivers individual lesson plans in one or more academic subjects using a variety of teaching techniques and appealing to various learning styles.
  • Monitors students' progress throughout the year and evaluates knowledge, skills and competence for performance in related practical tasks and projects.
  • Provides support for character and spiritual formation as outlined in the document "The Graduate at Graduation."
  • Participates in faculty meetings, Pre-Tenure formation programs, in-service opportunities, and retreat and spiritual formation activities. Attendance in educational workshops and training seminars are encouraged.
  • Maintains knowledge of research, developments, and best practices in secondary education generally and Catholic and Jesuit education specifically.
  • Collaborate with colleagues through positive and growth focused relationship development.
  • Embrace, support, and foster diversity, equity, and inclusion in and outside the classroom.
  • Performs related tasks such as sponsoring student activities or organizations.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • A practicing Catholic who believes and follows the precepts of the Church.
  • Understanding of the pedagogy and best practices of Catholic and Jesuit educational philosophy.
  • Passion for teaching secondary students, adaptability in instruction and a commitment to supporting the Catholic and Jesuit identity and mission of the school.
  • The ability to design lessons that teach Theology curriculum in an engaging manner, applying various teaching methods.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage and control the classroom.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills with a proven ability to remain professional and tactful in high-stress situations
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Creative analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Google Suite and other essential educational software.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's Degree in Theology or related field preferred.
  • Prior Theology teaching experience preferred.
