School Nurse St. Joseph’s Academy
St. Joseph’s Academy, a Catholic college-preparatory high school for young women in St. Louis, Missouri, is seeking a full-time School Nurse for the 2026–27 school year. The School Nurse supports the health, safety, and well-being of students, faculty, and staff by providing direct nursing care, managing student health plans, and maintaining accurate medical records. This role works closely with the Athletics Department and the Counseling Department to ensure coordinated care throughout the school day.
This is a full-time, 10 month (school-year) position. Typical hours are 7:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m., with occasional event coverage throughout the year.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide direct care for illness, injuries, and chronic health conditions.
- Administer medications and treatments per physician orders and SJA policies.
- Develop, update, and implement Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs) and emergency preparedness action plans.
- Monitor students with ongoing medical needs throughout the day.
- Communicate with parents/guardians regarding health concerns, care provided, and follow-up needs.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student health records.
- Track and ensure compliance with state immunization requirements.
- Document clinic visits, treatments, and communications.
- Support required health-related reporting for state or local agencies.
- Provide health education and guidance to students and staff.
- Assist with staff training in medical procedures (CPR, EpiPen use, diabetes support, seizure response).
- Respond to medical emergencies and coordinate care until EMS arrives.
- Maintain clinic supplies, emergency equipment, and first-aid kits.
- Participate in crisis response planning and drills.
- Collaborate with counselors, administrators, coaches, and faculty to support student health needs.
- Communicate professionally and compassionately with families.
- Support school events as needed (retreats, athletics, field trips).
Requirements
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Missouri required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- CPR/AED certification required.
- Experience in pediatrics, school nursing, or community health is strongly preferred.
- Strong communication, organization, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with school personnel.
