Long Term Substitute Position: Middle School (grades 6-8) Interdisciplinary

The College School is an independent Early Childhood through Eighth Grade school in St. Louis, Missouri, with a focus on interdisciplinary, experiential, and outdoor education.
We seek a highly-skilled Middle School teacher who knows the importance of cultivating relationships with students in order to empower their success. We seek a teacher who is passionate about the adolescent child, who knows the value of hands-on, experiential education, and who is a good addition to our dynamic learning community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Joyfully and wisely guiding children through personal and intellectual discovery;
- Collaborating with a team on the design and implementation of an engaging, age-appropriate, thematically-integrated, experiential curriculum;
- A focus on math, science and integrated studies;
- The ability to teach interdisciplinary project-based classes;
- A willingness to plan and chaperone a variety of field trips and student experiences both indoor and outdoors.
Common Qualification Requirements:
- The ability to study, adapt, implement, and frequently create a mission-aligned curriculum for the classes taught;
- Experience and acumen in classroom management;
- A sensitivity to the various needs of each individual student, both academic and social/emotional;
- Attention to communication with families, students, colleagues and supervisors, including responding to written and oral requests and messages;
- A bachelor's degree in a related field;
- A minimum of 2 years teaching experience;
- Physical stamina to manage trips, both outdoor and indoor, including walking (or assisted movement as needed) long distances, navigating open, often uneven spaces, and sleeping outdoors.
