Assistant Track & Field Coach: Shot Put & Discus
Ursuline Academy is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Assistant Track & Field Coach specializing in the shot put and discus to join our coaching staff.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about the throwing events and excited about helping young women develop their technique, confidence, strength, and competitive skills.
The Role
The Throws Coach will work primarily with student-athletes competing in the shot put and discus, with responsibility for helping athletes develop in areas such as:
- Shot put and discus technique and event fundamentals
- Footwork, positioning, balance, and throwing mechanics
- Event-specific drills and skill progression
- Strength, power, and overall athletic development in coordination with the coaching staff
- Competition preparation and meet-day execution
- Safety and proper practice procedures
- Goal setting and progressive athlete development
The coach will work collaboratively with the head coach and other event coaches while taking a leading role in the development of Ursuline's throwing athletes.
Who We're Looking For
We're particularly interested in someone who:
- Has experience coaching or competing in the shot put and/or discus
- Has a strong understanding of throwing technique and event fundamentals
- Enjoys teaching athletes at different experience and ability levels
- Can help both beginning throwers learn the events and experienced athletes continue to improve
- Puts student-athlete development at the center of their coaching
- Promotes teamwork, sportsmanship, accountability, confidence, and a positive team culture
- Communicates effectively with student-athletes, fellow coaches, and athletics staff
- Is dependable, enthusiastic, and excited about helping build the Ursuline track & field program
- Understands that success is about more than distances and results. It is also about helping young women develop as athletes, teammates, competitors, and leaders
Previous coaching experience is preferred, but we also welcome former shot put and discus athletes who have strong event-specific knowledge and an interest in developing as a coach.
