Teaching Associate

Andrews Academy in Creve Coeur is seeking an elementary level teaching associate to support various grade levels for the 2024-25 school year. The role of the Teaching Associate is to serve as a partner with the classroom teachers to support student learning and supervision. Thomas Jefferson School (TJ) seeks adjunct faculty members to teach courses in the studio arts or the performing arts during the 2024–2025 school year (August–May). 

Arts courses are generally taught Monday and Thursday afternoons between 2:30–5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Studio art: Teaching 2 semester-long high school courses in studio and 1 year-long 7th-grade visual arts course 

  • Drama: Teaching 1 year-long 8th-grade drama course and 2 semester-long high school courses in theatre arts (e.g., dance, vocal performance, drama).
  • Communicating assignments and expectations in a timely manner via MyTJS, our online learning-management system (Blackbaud)

  • Assessing student work according to communicated expectations and maintaining an electronic gradebook in MyTJS (Blackbaud)

  • Drafting personalized end-of-quarter comments for each student that reflect on their progress and highlight opportunities for continued growth

Manage Payroll

  • Enter new employees and remove terminated employees to/from the payroll system.
  • Update payroll records by reviewing and making changes to employee information, taxes, insurance coverage and other deductions.

  • Prepare and submit mid-month and month-end payroll.
  • Record mid- and end-month payroll journal entries and allocate to the appropriate programs.

Manage Employee Benefits

  • Review and enter employee elections on health, dental and life insurance.
  • Make changes and maintain employee records on all the benefits websites.
  • Reconcile employee benefits accounts.
  • Enter and submit retirement benefits as required.
  • Review and verify receipts for flexible compensation account reimbursements.

Month-End Closing Entries

Other Responsibilities

  • Maintain human resources files for all employees.
  • Preparation of materials and assembly of information for the auditors.
  • Assist the front desk with phone calls and other duties.
  • As needed by the Director of Finance and/or the Head of School.

 

Job Requirements:

•    Bachelors’ Degree in Accounting from an accredited university.

Thomas Jefferson School (TJ) seeks a Resident Assistant to live on campus and care for students, primarily during evenings and weekends. In exchange, Resident Assistants will be provided with room and board and a stipend (amount depending on start date). The ideal candidate must be at least 21 years of age and, preferably, a graduate student or young professional. An interest in working with adolescents and being part of a residential team is essential. The position is available for immediate start or to begin in August 2024.

TJ is a non-sectarian, co-educational boarding-and-day school for high-ability students in grades 7–12. Our college-preparatory program serves 85 students, about half of whom live on campus. TJ is located in Sunset Hills, a southwestern suburb of St. Louis, MO, approximately 20 minutes’ drive to the city.

Responsibilities

  • Residence will be required through the beginning of June. 

    • Students move out on June 1, 2024. For RAs not employed for the 2025–2026 year, the final move-out date will be June 30, 2025.

  • RAs supervise the students and oversee the campus through participation in a system of duty and on-call shifts throughout the year: 

    • 25 duty shifts (nights/weekends) during the academic year (36 weeks.) One duty shift lasts approximately five hours and entails: 

      • providing supervision and care for our boarding students by circulating through the dorms and around campus to touch base with students

      • being available to answer questions and handle emergencies 

      • enforcing school rules and policies

      • keeping track of student sign-outs using the Orah app

    • 9 on-call shifts (approximately): One on-call shift is 6 hours (Fridays) or 12 hours (Saturdays, Sundays, holidays) and entails:

      • being within a 10-minute radius of campus to provide support to the duty teacher in the event of an emergency

      • taking students to urgent care or hospital when needed

    • Late-night duty: participation in a rotation of approximately one week out of every six weeks

      • checking bedtimes (one to three times, depending on need, Sunday–Thursday, between 11:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m.)

      • providing overnight on-call coverage for the campus 8:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m. 

  • Organize and chaperone special events and trips as needed 

  • Be available to students in their assigned dorm (“House”) 

  • Attend scheduled quarterly Residential Life meetings

  • Perform other duties as assigned by Head of School or Director of Residential Life
