    Math Sense and Memory

    Monday-Friday | August 5-9, 2019 | 12:30 pm-3:30 pm

For students who have completed grades 5 through 9

Description: Math success is built on the foundation of numbers, but math education doesn’t always build in a concrete understanding of what numbers are and how they work. In this camp, we will explore the ways in which students interpret the meanings of both numbers and mathematical operations, helping them get a feel for what these represent in real terms and not just in the abstract. By linking mathematical operations to concrete operations, we will guide students to identify their own mistakes and analyze what went wrong. Along the way, we will unlock and practice techniques for improving overall facility with memorization and recall. Materials provided.

For students who have completed grades 5 through 9

Description: Just in time for the beginning of school, this course will examine how to take a student’s learning to the next level. Inspired by research, we will look at methods for how best to learn. This is not intended to provide strategies just to get an A (although we will discuss those), but instead provide methods to gain lasting, effective, and life-long knowledge and understanding through demonstrated, scientific research. For students who have completed grades 3 through 7

Description: We’ll work on the structures and conventions of creative writing, both by reading exceptional short stories and practicing the craft of writing and revision. We’ll focus on the conventions of plotting and characterization, with particular emphasis on building a descriptive vocabulary. Students will learn how to plan stories before writing them, will work on dialogue, and will offer constructive criticism to their peers. Though this program is not focused on preparation for the SSAT, the skills are transferable—the writing section of the SSAT asks students to produce a short story from a prompt. Ursuline Academy

  • 5/28/2019 to 7/18/2019

Ursuline Academy Summer Sports Camps are designed to provide the student-athletes in our community with a foundation of fundamental skills, knowledge, character and leadership development, plus a love for athletics. This type of cross training not only helps to develop overall athleticism; it keeps sports fresh and exciting. Every camp at Ursuline Academy is directed by the head coach in that sport. In addition, the assistant coaches, along with current and former top performers from the program, work with the athletes to make sure they have the fundamentals, focus, and fun to improve their games. Age levels are based on grade levels for the UPCOMING school year. Every sport has different dates, times, and age group offerings, so read the camp description carefully.  Please click the link for specifics on dates and times for each camp.

At The Wilson School Summer Camp, we group children according to their age and anticipated grade level. You will find that our program provides a perfect balance between planned activities and free time that is important to a child’s development.

We have a wonderful offering of weekly sessions this summer that are sure to give your child a wide range of unique and engaging experiences. The camp is operated by a talented team of Wilson faculty and college-aged counselors, and every child’s safety and well-being is our primary concern.
