The Future of Civil Discourse, with Alexander Heffner
Date: 11/14/2017 Start Time: 7:00 PM End Time: 8:30 PM Location: Whitfield School, 175 South Mason Road, St. Louis, MO 63141
During his presentation, Heffner will consider the Millennial citizen, the space of old and new media, and the character of political discourse. He will chronicle the cycle of incivility in the public sphere and consider how more civic-minded journalism can restore civil dialogue, deliberation, and bridge-building.
Heffner has reported extensively on Millennials and fused “The Open Mind” program’s traditional public television viewership with the emerging digital demographic to bring awareness to issues of public concern. He has given talks and moderated panels at major colleges and universities across the country on the topic of the future of civil discourse.
